Multicultural education promotes the development of cultural competence and proficiency and allows students to understand and appreciate differences and values in their own and each other’s cultures. When teachers do not include a multicultural educational approach, deaf and hard of hearing students miss their window of opportunity to understand and appreciate the differences between their own cultural practices and beliefs and those of their classmates.
