Center-Based Environment Tip Sheet: 5 Essentials

Center-based services are early intervention playgroups where Deaf and hard of hearing infants, toddlers, and their families come together to learn, communicate, and build relationships. Use this tip sheet to guide your playgroup approaches. It names five essentials of a strong program: a language-rich, visually accessible space; qualified and well-supported providers; meaningful family engagement and communication; connections to Deaf adults and other families; and program leadership that uses feedback and data to keep quality high. Use it as a starting point for planning or reviewing playgroup services.
