A strong school climate in an ASL/English bilingual program is intentional, inclusive, and accessible every day, not just in mission statements. Use this tip sheet as a quick reference for the four things that shape it: communication access that is equitable and predictable in classrooms, meetings, and events; respect and inclusion built into daily practice; Deaf knowledge and lived experience treated as expertise rather than an afterthought; and leadership that sets clear expectations, models them, and follows through. It helps staff see what a healthy climate looks like and where their own practice can strengthen it.
