Program Identity Tip Sheet

Program identity is the set of beliefs and values that guides how a program supports Deaf and hard of hearing children and their families, its Deaf-centered character. Use this tip sheet to understand it in plain terms. It describes what program identity can include, such as a commitment to language access and ASL and English Bilingual development, respect for Deaf culture, and strong family partnerships. It explains why a clear identity helps families build trust, make informed decisions, and feel welcomed, and it describes what a strong program identity looks like in everyday practice.
