Family Involvement Overview Tip Sheet for Schools

Family involvement is how a school builds strong, working partnerships with families to support student success. Use this tip sheet as a quick reference for what that looks like in practice. It describes four signs of strong involvement: ongoing, accessible ASL classes so families can communicate with their child; family engagement and empowerment through resources and culturally responsive support; schoolwide communication that is timely, clear, and available in ASL and English; and steady home-school communication that flows both ways and shares decisions. Use it to reflect on current practice and decide where to strengthen family partnership.
